Here at HeadStart, we listen very carefully to the views of our teaching colleagues at the ‘chalk face’.  You have told us that a series of books covering the objectives of the maths arithmetic curriculum would be very helpful. You also said that if they were accompanied by some standardised tests, they would be even better. 

We are delighted to announce that the first book in the series, for Year 6, has been created to your specifications.  It contains practice pages for every arithmetic objective of the maths curriculum.  Every objective is clearly labelled and the practice examples are set out as they are in the Maths Arithmetic SATs paper – on squared paper.

The Year 6 book and accompanying CD-ROM also contain 6 standardised tests with raw score/scaled score conversion charts.  The tests have been extensively trialled in schools across the country to establish the standardisation/scaled scores.   

This means that pupils can be assessed, their performance analysed and then teaching to address strengths and weaknesses can be implemented using the practice pages.  This process would be continued up to next May – and, like it or not, we all know what happens then!

We believe that this series will really help children to master the necessary skills for all their maths learning, as well as in the Y6 SAT Arithmetic test.
