TIMES TABLES TESTS FOR YEAR 6

What Will It Mean?
As we have all heard, Schools Minister Nick Gibb has confirmed that an additional test is to be introduced in 2019 for Year 6 pupils.
A new times tables check will be brought in, most likely at the same time as the KS2 SATs. This means that the pupils who are currently in Year 4 will be the first cohort to be assessed in this way.
How Will It Be Administered?
It is proposed that pupils will be tested using an on-screen check which will be the first time this type of technology will be used in NC testing. Pupils will have to answer a series of questions under times conditions and their answers will be marked instantly. This is intended to make administering the test easier and to give teachers immediate results.
The original plans for the test were put on hold when Justine Greening took over as Education Secretary and ruled that no new national tests or assessmemnts were to be introduced before the 2018-19 academic year.
Mr Gibb’s announcement at the end of February confirmed that the plans are now back on.
How We Can Help
Our ‘Learn Your Times Tables’ materials have a multisensory approach to consolidate pupils’ learning which makes them suitable to use with pupils of all abilities. They have lots of fun activities for opportunities for reinforcement at home,
Each multiplication table is split into manageable sections so that pupils can progress at a pace that is comfortable for them.
The sections of each book are all complemented by the tracks on the audio CD. The spoken word on the CD is intended to help the pupils establish a rhythm when chanting the tables, which in turn will consolidate the learning taking place.
An additional CD-ROM contains a PDF of the book and can be used on an interactive whiteboard or for printing.
