NATIONAL EVENTS FOR SCHOOL IN JANUARY




Get your class back into the swing of things by getting involved in some National Awareness Days and events for schools this January.



Many of the suggested activities involve minimum fuss with free support packs and resources available online.


January 2017


Big Schools’ Birdwatch


Date: 3rd January to 17th February
About: One of the world’s largest wildlife survey, the Big Schools’ Birdwatch is a guided activity for schools that encourages children to get closer to nature. It only takes an hour and is suitable for all ages and abilities.
Extras: If you register for the event, you’ll receive a free bird identification poster for your classroom.

National Obesity Awareness Week – JanUary


Date: 9th January to 15th January
About: JanUary is about doing something good for you. The event, led by the National Obesity Forum is designed to get people thinking about how to eat healthier, be more active and improve our general health.
Extras: You are encouraged put a poster in the school, run your own event, make a New Year’s resolution and get involved in the social media campaigns using #dosomethinggoodforU and #healthyjanUary.

National Storytelling Week


Date: 28th January to 4th February
About: The Society for Storytelling comes alive during National Storytelling Week with organised storytelling events in clubs, theatres, museums, schools, hospitals, spoken word venues, and care homes.
Extras: You can find a local Storytelling Event for a class trip or arrange for a Storyteller to come to your school using the Storytellers Directory.

National Bug Busting Day


Date: 31st January
About: Bug Busting is a programme that educates parents, teachers and children about how to reliably detect head lice. It delivers the ‘whole school approach’ under the National Healthy School Standard.
Extras: You can order the School Bug Busting Kit which includes a detection wallchart and life cycle poster, teaching materials and worksheets, a demonstration DVD and Bug Buster combs.
