March Dates for Your Diary
The new year half-term has passed and the build up to Easter begins. We have put together some opportunities for extra-curricular lessons in our March roundup.

World Book Day
Thursday 7th March
World Book Day is always a little controversial as every day should be a book day for children. Nonetheless, it is still an opportunity to celebrate the wonder of books and hopefully encourage even more young, and older, readers.
There are a whole host of primary school resources available on the WBD website. You can also register now for a BRAND NEW creative, inspiring and interactive series of films for you to screen in class at ANY TIME that suits you. The online masterclasses focus on reading, writing, illustration and other creative challenges.
Our very own reading comprehension resource is excellent, covering all national curriculum objectives.
British Science Week
8th March to 17th March
Head over to the BSW website for activity packs to help you plan your lessons.
Themed around ‘journeys’, our activity packs provide easy-to-do, hands-on activities that parents and teachers can easily run with their students and children. From creating tunnels, time capsules and perfume to keeping a nature log and mummifying an orange, there’s something for everyone.
We love seeing how you use the activity packs so please share your pictures with us on Twitter using the hashtag #BSW19
In other news, our brand new Science resource will be available to purchase from May 2019. Our Science Scaled Score Progress Tests provide 3 scaled score tests for each year group to identify the strengths and weaknesses of classes, groups and individuals. You can request Inspection Copies today (free-of-charge with no obligation to purchase) and we will send you inspection copies to review in May.
Red Nose Day
Friday 15th March
Red Nose Day rolls around again. Get involved!
Schools and nurseries helped raise over £5 million last Red Nose Day. Join in the fun in 2019 and help us bake, dance, splat and sing our way to an even bigger total.
Global Recycling Day
Monday 18th March
Every year, the earth yields billions of tons of natural resources to transform into consumables. At some point, there will be nothing left. That’s why we must, as a planet, think again about what we throw away – seeing not waste, but opportunity.
Global Recycling Day was created in 2018 to help recognize, and celebrate, the importance recycling plays in preserving our precious primary resources and securing the future of our planet. It is a Day for the world to come together, and put the planet first.
The Global Recycling Foundation has a collection of education materials on their website to help you plan lessons.
We have also put together a list of our favourite recycled crafts for your class to put together. Keep an eye on our blog later in the month.
The Big Pedal
25th March to 5th April
Sustrans Big Pedal is the UK’s largest inter-school cycling, walking and scooting challenge inspiring pupils, staff and parents to choose human power for their journey to school.
For the first time, walking will be counted alongside cycling and scooting.
Sustrans Big Pedal will run for 10 days from 25 March to 5 April 2019 and is open to all primary and secondary schools in the UK, including SEN schools.
