May Dates for Your Diary

Here is our roundup of key dates to help you walk, bike, meditate and share your way through May.

National Share-a-Story Month

May 2018

Celebrating a World of Stories.

National Share-A-Story Month (NSSM) is an annual celebration of the power of storytelling and story sharing, providing a fantastic opportunity to fulfil the core aim of the FCBG of bringing children and stories together. Across the country Federation book groups and individuals run a whole host of events. Each year we are inspired by a specific theme and work with different organisations to provide people with resources and opportunities.

For downloadable materials and resources, blog posts and competitions head to the NSSM website.

World Meditation Day

15th May 2018

Meditation is everywhere just now. Growing popularity has seen the calming practice spread throughout Hollywood, Silicon Valley and across the Atlantic to our shores. Now, a growing number of schools are using meditation as a means of preparing pupils for a chaotic world.

The industry leader in teaching meditation practice is the app Headspace. They are also aware of the potential benefits of teaching meditation to children at an early age and offer Headspace for Kids on their website. Take a look, and take a deep breath!

Walk to School Week

Walk to School Week, taking place each May, is a country-wide celebration of walking. Each year Living Streets puts together a fun themed challenge to take on while walking to and from school.
